FIRST Recycles

THE PROBLEM

We noticed that there were no recycling bins at FRC competitions. Having developed a habit to recycle at home, it was a pity to see all the cans and bottles in regular trash cans with no recycling bins nearby. It was especially noticeable at the World Championship where the large trash bins behind the bleachers were filled with recyclable plastic bottles and metal cans. We also learned that the makerspace our team meets at does not have recycling bins because there are additional costs and logistics challenges to get recycling service for a business entity.

OUR SOLUTION

We designed a program for teams to advocate, confirm, and/or provide recycling options at FIRST competitions. We will also provide information for teams on providing recycling options at the team's meeting space. Inspired by the m.e. FIRST program created by FRC Space Cookies, we want to promote enviromental sustainability and one day have recycling at all FRC competition events and meeting spaces.
